Canada Farm is a certified organic 105 hectare farm that contacted us needing foliar nutrition on 40 hectares of wheat at a growth stage where a sprayer would have to drive through standing crop crushing it to get it applied.

The task: Foliar fertilise 40 hectares of wheat on a certified organic system, applying 80 litres per hectare of molasses and seaweed nutrient across standing crop. Every input and every pass on an organic farm gets scrutinised, so the application had to go on at the right growth stage without costing the crop anything on the way in.
Outcome: The whole 40 hectares went on in a day. No wheel entered the crop, so there was no tramline damage to write off and no damaging of underlying soil structure. Fuel for the entire job came to around £20 of diesel, a fraction of what a boom sprayer would burn covering the same ground. If your fertility plan depends on getting foliars on at the right moment, the drone takes the condition of the ground and the height of the crop out of the decision entirely.
