Why Devon Farmers Choose Drone Spraying
Devon's steep combes, red-soil hills and small, banked fields are some of the most difficult ground in the country for a self-propelled sprayer, and slopes that are marginal or unsafe for a tractor are routine for a drone. Flying above the crop removes the compaction and slippage risk on steep, wet red land entirely, and lets us treat awkward corners and steep valley sides that ground kit either skips or struggles across. For growers and livestock farmers from the Culm to the South Hams, difficult terrain stops dictating what gets sprayed and when.
Only around a tenth of Devon is arable - the county is roughly three-quarters grassland - and farms here average under 60 hectares, worked around steep-sided valleys and the highest hedgerow density of any English county. This is ground people have always farmed around: the hand-cut lynchet terraces on Devon's hillsides exist precisely because the slopes were too steep to cultivate conventionally. Flying above the crop sidesteps that terrain entirely, and gets onto wet, hilly fields that stay boggy later into spring and turn wet earlier in autumn than the chalk counties.

Advantages of Drone Spraying
Precise Variable Rate Spraying
NDVI mapping applies product only where the crop needs it to the centimeter level. Our drones build NDVI maps onboard and adjust application rate in real time, spot-treating weak or high-pressure areas instead of blanket-spraying the whole field without complex manouvers and compacting crop.

The Access Unlock
Steep slopes, waterlogged fields and standing crops - all on schedule. Tractors struggle to get onto waterlogged fields in the autumn or winter, and no matter the time of year tractor-mounted sprayers knock pods off tall crops like beans and oilseed rape wasting yield. Drones fly above the crop - so your spray window isn't dictated by ground conditions.

Zero Compaction, Real Yield Recovery
2-5% yield improvement from eliminating wheel traffic. No tyre ruts, no crushed crop, no compounding soil structure damage. Every tramline a boom sprayer cuts costs you yield. Drones remove ground traffic entirely, recovering that yield and giving your soil a break - season after season.

Lower Running Costs Per Hectare
Up to 50% less fuel and up to 94% less water use than boom sprayers. Drones apply concentrated product at 5-7 litres per hectare, against roughly 100 litres per hectare for a boom sprayer, while covering 15-19 hectares an hour. Fewer refill trips and lower fuel use bring your cost per hectare down.
